Can my doctor prescribe depression medication?

This is probably a stupid question, but can an general doctor, one that’s not a psychiatrist, prescribe medication all for depression, or bash you need to metal forwarded to a psychiatrist?

I just got dumped, basically, and I was already low before that. Presently, I won’t eat, nothing’s fun to me anymore, and all I perform is sleep.
